OK, so I don’t keep up this blog anymore but I have documented Ellis’ first year in a Shutterfly photo book. It took many hours of work for the 47 page book. After today, I have 2 more days of maternity leave and I am trying to enjoy every minute of them. I have mixed feelings about returning to work full time and just can’t imagine how life will be away from Ellis for most of the day. She has totally changed our world and I just love her to pieces…definitely more than coffee!

Skagit County Tavern Crawl

My friend Aimee put together a tavern crawl for her 29th birthday. They rented a party bus so everyone had a safe ride. Who knew this even existed in Bellingham? We had such a fun night eating fried food and drinking cheap beer. I was able to wear shorts for the last time of the year I am sure. And the best part about it…I was home by 10:30pm!

Especially when it is welcomed with 85 degree weather!! The first day of fall was so hot and muggy. My morning workout felt like Hawaii and my evening dinner in Mount Vernon felt like Mexico. Happy Autumn!

Welcome Back T & A!

Our great friends, Trevor and Alison are moving from Honolulu to Connecticut and made Bellingham their first stop on a west coast tour. We got to a beautiful day and toured the orchard. Jake worked a short day and we got a babysitter. It was a really fun visit. Alison took a lot of pictures with her fancy camera at the farm so I didn’t end of with any of my own.

Expect for this cutie of Trevor and Ellis (taken by Alison also). I love that he is drinking out of a Mom cup.

We are so glad to have these 2 back on the mainland and are ready for a visit to NYC!

Weekend in Portland

To celebrate my Mom’s birthday and catch my girlfiend’s wedding, my parents, Ellis and I drove down for a weekend (almost) in Portland. The trip ended up being a bit of a whirlwind and we didn’t actually spend anytime in the city.

Our first stop was the Kennedy school house for lunch. I have always wanted to take my parents here. They posed in front of the Honors Bar, just as I did 7 years ago when I first visited.

Jen’s wedding was beautiful. It was in her neighbors backyard and the weather turned out perfect. It was so good to see her and the family and reconnect after all these years!

On Sunday, we did some outlet shopping (look at that cute pumpkin!) and then drove to Woodburn to meet up with some old friends of my parents. Ellis did great with all the driving but we were happy to arrive home around 11:30pm and wake up in our own bed/crib.

Ellis had her 4 month check up recently and here are her stats:

Weight: 12 pounds, 1.5 oz (25%)

Height: 25.5 inches (90%)

Head: 40 cm (15%)

Ellis dropped down to the 25th percentile from the 50th on her last visit. The doc thinks that she has “found her new curve” and that she is likely to be small even though she was born so big. My mom calls her a whisper. Although there doesn’t seem to be any concern, we still second guess how much she is getting to eat. This is the hardest part about breastfeeding! Ellis will never have cute baby rolls because she is just so long. Everything else about her check up was great!

Special Talents: Rolling over with ease, taking out her pacifier and putting it back in, giggling and kicking against my hands when we play on the floor.

Likes: Mom and Dad - Mom is number #1 right now but she loves any Daddy time she can get. Mila - She is also loving Mila right now. They have started cuddling together on the floor and Ellis pets Mila’s chest. She would also lick Mila if I let her. I guess she can’t quite understand why Mila gets to lick her so often! Travel - Ellis likes traveling and has been a dream on all of our car and plane rides so far. She adjusts quickly and can sleep anywhere including crowded restaurants, in my lap, or in a suitcase sleeper.

Dislikes: Alone time - I don’t have a swing or a jumper or anything that Ellis can play in by herself. She has gotten used to being with me ALL the time, unless she is napping. She does great on the floor but usually I have to sit down with her. Sleeping in her stroller during the day - She is very interested in her surroundings and doesn’t nap during Stroller Strides or walks any more. There is too much to see and listen to.

Sleep: Not much change in her sleep patterns although I am still dealing with 1 to 2 wake-ups per night. I go into her room, replace the pacifier and back to sleep she goes until 5 or 6am. I would love for her to skip this little step so that the whole family can sleep until morning but for some reason she is still waking up most nights. I wonder if she really is hungry and sometimes I will feed her at 3 or 4am. However, about every 4th night she will sleep until 6 without a peep so I know that she can do it. She still goes to sleep between 7 and 7:30pm very easily which is great for getting things done in the evening.

The infamous Golden Gate Bridge picture. Wait, where is the bridge? It was pretty blistery out which would have been fine except for I had to leave Bellingham on an 80 degree weekend.

Spotted: Ellis street. We shopped here near Union Square while Kris was working on Monday. We also had a meltdown on Ellis street. We are talking screaming baby, almost crying mama, peeing on the floor, an outfit change and dropping off clothes with an employee in a mad haste. I guess it had to happen sometime…

And on the way out of town, we snap this beauty of the bay. We love San Francisco!

I took Ellis to San Francisco to visit 2 of my favorite people. We had a great weekend running around the city, wine tasting, and cuddling with baby. Allegiant has a direct flight from Bellingham which is so quick and convenient. Ellis was a dream on the plane and Kris/Kevin were great hosts! I can’t wait to visit again.
