Big Sare turns 30!

I have a habit of going all out for my b-day parties and turning 30 was no exception. This year we hired Fiamma di Mamma to cater with their mobile wood fired pizza operation. To accomodate for their big set up, the boys simple tore down a few fence panels and we were in business!

We also had JOAT make some delicious cupcakes and had a 3 piece Beatles cover band - all in our backyard! The weather turned out perfect and almost all of my friends were able to make the trip. Enjoy some photo and video documentation of the event!

The live music was a huge addition to the party and everyone was shocked at how good this young band was. I discovered them downtown and found out at the party that they are only 17! The Fanatics are seriously talented and they sing Beatles music!!

We were invited to a friends cabin for the weekend but could only go for a few hours since my birthday party fell during the same time. This cabin (beach house) is right on the water near LaConner. We sipped on coronas, ate tons of fresh crab and took a boat ride under the Deception Pass bridge. A great way to kick off the weekend!

I love August for many reasons. This is the best chance all year for great weather. My swimsuit drawer actually sees some action and of course, I get to celebrate my birthday!

This August, I am especially excited about visits from 2 out of state friends, visiting from New York and Cleveland and hosting a backyard blow-out in honor of my 30th!

If you are a girl who loves the Beatles, outdoor music, and hot summer nights, then you also would have had a perfect summer evening with me. My favorite Beatles cover band, Creme Tangerine made it all the way to Anacortes this summer. Last summer, they traveled to Arlington. I put these concerts close to home on my calendar months in advance!

Upcoming winter travel

Alaska Airlines just announced round trip, direct flights from Bellingham to Honolulu (aka where 2 of our friends just moved). They also put the first flights on special for $149 each way staring in January.

What else was there to do besides book a trip? We are traveling with the Koehlers and Stroyans and visiting Trevor and Alison of course. This will be my first trip to Hawaii and I can’t wait!

Plus, Alison got us a killer deal at her new hotel, Edition, which hasn’t even opened yet. It is exclusive, expensive and caters towards celebs so of course, I LOVE IT!

Yeah for winter vacation!!

Dress shopping!

The day after ther engagement party, I got to join the bride-to-be for a little wedding dress shopping. There is nothing more fun than the inside of a bridal shop. The gowns are so pretty and elaborate and the first shopping trip marks the overwhelming and wonderful feeling of being a bride! I hope we have many more of these trips to come!

I don’t know if you knew, but my BFF is getting married and I will serving as her matron of honor. This is a day that I have been looking forward to since I discovered my BFF in a house called the Six Pack in Pullman, WA.

Her wedding will be held on 8.6.11 so to kick of a year of planning and fun, Krevin had their engangement party on 8.6.10 (clever, right?) The party was appropriately held at the Clever Bottle in Seattle, which is an adorable wine bar right around the corner from Krevin’s condo.

Here is the happy couple. I can’t wait for 8.6.10. Love you guys!!

A great thing happened today…

My fave Bellingham band, Spaceband, hosted an outdoor concert for FREE! These guys do the best 90’s, rap and hip-hop covers and are usually enjoyed from the inside of a bar. But today, we got to load up a picnic, our bota bag filled with red wine and our Mila girl for some great tunes at Boulevard Park.

The dance floor turned into a grassy lawn and there were literally hundreds of people dancing. It was so great to see people of all ages busting a move to Baby got Back and other 90’s hits!

Today was a super fun Saturday. We met the Hayden family early for a FULL day at the lake. We swam and picnicked and fully enjoyed the hot sun. Although the place was packed, we found a nice little nook that didn’t get too busy.

For dinner, Jake and I had a lovely date while dining outside at the Semiahmoo resort. What a perfect view. Our food and wine was good but the atmosphere on a hot day can’t be beat.

Our super fun day ended with a trip to the Silver Reef casino. I definitely had some good karma coming my way and ended up winning $200 on Roulette! Jake was also a winner. A perfect end to a perfect Saturday…

July 20th, 2010 - Local B-ham pic of the week.

Today, I saw this cute Frenchy film called Micmacs with my independent film loving friend. Our Tuesday date began with a taco and then on to the adorable Pickford Film Center. Micmacs is subtitled in French and made by the director of Amelie. It is such a lovable movie. I highly recommend it!

Yes it is…which is why Jake and I like to use our bikes to take us to happy hours, lakes or breakfast. Today, July 17th, we rode to the Hearthfire grill for a glass of Rose and some outdoor appetizers. We also cycled around the marina and looked at all the cute sail boats. We tend to enjoy a meal with our bikes about once a week in summertime!

To make July even more great, Krevin invited us to for a part of their San Juan island sailing adventure. We embarked on the Sea Eagle on early Sunday and explored San Juan and Orcas islands.

Day 1: We were picked up in Friday Harbor and had lunch outside at a cute Fish and Chips place. We then loaded up Sea Eagle and took a casual 4 hour ride to Roche Harbor.

Roche Harbor was a dream! We had a little vino on the boat and dinner at the cafe. We also walked around and visited the general store both on Sunday and Monday morning. I definetely fell in love with the place and can’t wait to spend more time here as we plan for Krevin’s perfect August wedding.

On our second day, we had one main mission… to see the whales. This brought us through the Harrows strait right into the super pod. Seeling the huge whales from a little sailboat was pretty amazing, plus a little scary when I stopped to think about it. After our FULL day of whale chasing and some crazy sailing, we returned to Roche for the night.

Finally on the last day, we got to do my kind of “sailing”, which actually meant motoring through the islands on a perfectly still, hot day while getting some much needed sun. We ended our time on the Sea Eagle on Orcas Island, leaving time for an ice cream cone at the ferry and a nice ride home. Thanks Kris and Kevin for inviting us on your vacation. I can’t wait to do it again!

Today, we drove down south to attend a joint suprise Amazing Race/mustache 30th birthday party for these 2 fun friends.

(The cake has 2 mustaches on it!)

The race started at the Stroyans and took us through a series of challenges just like the show. The only down side is that it was 90 degrees in Seattle and there were TONS of people at every location. Also, racing in cars almost immediatley leads to couples fighting. It happened to ALL OF US! Jake and I had no chance of winning but tried to make the best of it. Here are some pics of our Seattle Amazing Race.

So, when I said we had no chance of winning, it was becuase Jake and I have never lived in Seattle (unlike the rest of the teams) and we don’t have iPhones. We were doomed. At least we could take our time at the last place and enjoy a brewsky before returning to the Pit Stop.

This little guy was really into the BBQ and party and looked so cute in his little mustache!

Today had SO much potential and don’t get me wrong, we had a blast. However, rain and grey skies clouded this years 4th of July celebration. We were invited on to Ryan’s boat for a day of sailing and swimming and of course fireworks on Lake Union.

Not everyone let the weather get them down…Jake, Scott, Laura, Diggy and Kris could not resist the house boat slide into the lake and roof top hot tub. Sporting our red, white, and blue, the group took part in some college style drinking games, silly hats, and grilling off the side of the boat. Watching fireworks from the water was also notable. 4th of July is always a fun celebration, but for Western Washingtonians, it marks the real start of summer. You can bet that July 5th will be a perfectly sunny day as is expected this year. Oh, the cruelty of this state we live in…
