Ski to Sea 2011
This is code for Memorial Day weekend in Bellingham.  Jake participated in his 5th race this year.  As usual, we hosted a team member at the house and held a post race BBQ.  What was unusual this year was how little I was involved.  With a 3 week old, I didn’t watch Jake come in (he did the road bike leg) or go to the finish line.  Fairhaven and the beer garden were out of the question. ...

Ellis and Daddy
It is amazing to watch Jake embrace his new role as Daddy.  He is smitten with our sweet girl and is constantly commenting on how cute she is.  His loves it when he unwraps her tight swaddle and she stretches her arms and legs while arching her back.  He picks her up in the evenings and drums to the music on her back while singing whatever is on the radio.   These 2 already have a special...

Bath Time!
Our girl was not so sure about her first bath but she sure looked cute in her bright yellow ducky towel.  Here she is relaxing with grandma and daddy.

First family outing
On Tuesday morning  we decided to take our 5 day old for her first family outing.  We dressed her in a cute outfit and went out to lunch. This little outfit barely fit our big girl and will probably only be worn once.  She is already fitting into 0-3 months.  Luckily, we were expecting a big baby and didn’t buy hardly any newborn clothes.  We had an uneventful lunch and car ride to...

Ellis comes home.
And just like that, our new family is born.   This is minutes after we arrived home.  Ellis was sleeping so we decided to put her right into her bassinet.  By the way, how cute is our bassinet?  We borrowed it from our friends, PK and Kristen.  It is very old.  PK actually used it when he was a baby.  I made sure to give Mila a little love.  She has no idea how much her world is about to...

Cute hospital photos of our Ellie girl
We stayed 2 nights at the hospital.  We probably would have been OK with 1 but wanted to make sure that breastfeeding was going well before venturing home.  Our nurse on the first night was named Madonna and she was old school (and old too; she returned to nursing post retirement after her husband passed away).  She taught me that babies aren’t that fragile and encouraged Jake to get...

Welcome Ellis Rose
My sweet girl was born at 10:24am on May 5th, 2011.  A Cinco de Mayo baby.  She was a biggie, weighing 9 pounds, 3 ounces and measuring 21 inches long.  Everything about her arrival went perfectly.  I have been working on writing her birth story which is way too long and has a few too many details to share here. However, I will share that I went into labor around 5:00am on May 5th and delivered a...

May the 4th be with you
My daughter was not born on May 4th but May 4thwas a very significant day for us.  I woke up that morning, a Wednesday, 5 days past my due date.  I was anxious to say the least.  I had been going to sleep each night hoping that I would be awoken by the mysterious feeling of labor. When I woke up on this day, I felt nothing but dissapointment.  I had a feeling I would not be having a baby on this...
