Best News Ever
I got the greatest call over the weekend. Kris and Kevin are engaged!!!!! Kevin proposed in a perfect way which included a romantic getaway, a private dockside table, a bottle of Cristal and www.kriskirn.com. I could not be happier for these two and can’t wait to see what there wedding will look like.
I am also obsessed with this picture of the happy couple which also shows...

Vancouver Olympics 2010
I have been throwing around the phrase “once in a lifetime” lately with the whole Fashion Week experience. This weekend, we decided to cross the border and be a part of the 2010 winter Olympics. We tried to get tix through several lotteries to no avail so instead we hit as many Olympic venues that we could on one day.
We crossed the border in 15 minutes and stopped at the Surrey...
30 Rockefeller Center
We really did no sight seeing until Monday…our last day in the city. Feeling tired and cold, we only visited 5th avenue, the outside of Central Park and Rockefeller Center (for the 2nd or 3rd time) and snapped a couple pictures. Because I love 30 Rock, this building is a fun one to visit.
I have yet to make it to 1 museum in NYC and vow that my next trip will include this, plus more...
Grand Central Station
Our hotel was located a couple blocks from Grand Central Station. We ended up walking through here at least once per day. This place has been featured in a million tv shows and movies and just feels so New York.
After Fashion Week, we hit up GC Station for pizza by the slice and a drink at the swanky Campbell Apartment, which boasts cocktails from another era. This is a bar that takes a...
Product placement
For Fashion Week, Alexis borrowed a fancy clutch from her friend. Her friend paid only $250 but it retails for $500 (I still don’t even know the brand). We liked to slip the clutch into multiple pictures for “product placement”, because it was clearly the nicest thing we had combined. Here are a few examples:
One of my favorite quotes of the night was when we arrived at...
A bit more on Fashion Week
The view of the Herve Leger show, clean and simple.
The entrance to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.
Another entrance to the tents that also shows the ridiculous weather.
Snapped this photo in line at the bathroom. These people can’t be serious, can they?
Another ridiculous couple in what appeared to be homemade fashion.
And a minor celeb sighting to round out the day. I think...
Diane von Furstenberg (DVF)
Our second show was the super famous Diane von Furstenberg. This show was held in the biggest venue which was at least 2 times the size of the Herve Leger test. This show is very prestigious so I was very happy to get tix. Jake switched places with Alexis who joined my for a little Fashion Week experience.
Below are a few of my favorite outfits. DVF is known for wrap dresses and wearable...
This is the DVF finale from my perspective. Sorry, the video is horribly blurry. I put it up because at the end, you see Tim Gunn jump up to applaud in his adorable way. She also recognizes Anna Wintour and has an awkward encounter with Pat Fields but I stopped recording. Enjoy!
And if you actually want to see the clothes, here is a professional video. All of the camera people are located in the same spot (see the pic below) so the angle that you see in the video is really common.
Intermission
A show at FW literally lasts 15 minutes. After Herve Leger, we had 45 minutes to kill and 2 good things happened.
1. The bar opened up and I was pleased to find out that all of the drinks were FREE! Chambord was a sponsor so I indulged in a (free) French Martini. Drinks are SO expensive in NYC that an open bar feels like winning a prize.
2. The only celebrity that I was looking for was...
Herve Leger
Finally, it is time for our first show. Let me tell you a little bit about the check-in process at Fashsion Week. This is where the madness comes in. There are several places to get checked in which I think is determined by the type of ticket. We were told twice to “come back in 15 minutes” to the station which is filled with people running around and tons of girls working their...
This a video of the finale at Herve Leger so you can see the Fashion show from my perspective. The front row celebs are in full view. Watch to the end for the Max Azria appearance.
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Fall 2010 - So long...
This FW said so-long to Bryant Park because this is the last year it will happen at the tents. Next year, the event will take place in Lincoln Center. Because this may be my only Fashion Week appearance, I was glad to attend this notable show.
Fashion Week is crazy mayhem. Tons of people and cameras, people trying to get into shows, crowds of people working and ridiculous dressers trying to...
Valentine's Dinner
Well, we actually tried to get a breakfast/brunch reservation and everything was booked so we figured that dinner would be impossible. So, we took Alexis to a Valentine’s Eve dinner in the Meatpacking District for our fancy, romantic meal. We could only get a 10:00pm reservation at Fig and Olive, which made us feel Euro and nostalgic.
This place had a good vibe with loud, fun music...
NYC Day #2
After the makeover, it was time for some serious shopping. We jumped on the Subway and met Alexis in SoHo for shopping madness. Because it was Saturday, the stores were packed and overwhelming. Luckily I found a dress at Armani Exchange, who totally had a DJ and loud techno music…normal.
After a few hours, we needed to warm up and kill a couple of hours for our dinner reservation. We...
Makeover - Before and After
One of the best parts of the Fashion Week prize was a fabulous NY makeover at the Liz Russell salon. I went in with no expectations and just let the 4 girls do their thing. The owner, Liz, did my color. My favorite line of the day was when she said, “If you would have asked me for highlights, I wouldn’t have given them to you.” Apparently, I shouldn’t have...
Night Out in NYC
Jake and I couldn’t wait to meet up with our great friend Alexis. I had visited her last year in New York but Jake and Alexis had not reunited since 2002. Jake and Alexis were actually friends in Barcelona first. They went to Spanish class, drank cafe con leche, and ate bocadillos every morning. After a quick dinner at Virgil’s BBQ, we met Alexis at Lilies, an Irish bar near Union...
NYFW Show #2
If you thought things couldn’t get better, they just did. My second show was announced today. The legendary, celebrity dresser, Diane Von Furstenberg (DVF).
The celebrity sightings at this show are a guarantee. Last year included Blake Lively, Candice Bergen, Andre Balazs, Rachel Zoe, Peaches Geldof, Michelle Trachtenberg, Terry Richardson, Shenae Grimes. OK, I don’t know who...
Red Wine and Chocolate Festival
On this beautiful Saturday, we drove to Mount Vernon for the 5th annual Red Wine and Chocolate Festival. The tasting was free and liberal and the chocolate goodies were everywhere! After deciding on our favorite glass, we found this sunny spot to enjoy our wine and company.
Our favorite red was a blend called Rapture. We both bought bottles.
A nice winery family picture. In Roxy’s...
Welcome Mr. and Mrs. M. and their newest edition,...
Looking forward to spending time with this cute girl (and her parents, of course) for a B-ham weekend!
The count down begins - 7 days until Fashion Week
Although I am DYING to receive my itinerary, I am starting to get really excited about going to New York next week. This will be my 3rd trip to the Big Apple. I am looking to re-create this:
And this:
I will post FW details as soon as I get them!
